CAMBRIDGE -- Plans are now underway for the third annual Dorchester - Cambridge Multi-cultural Festival slated to be held from noon to 5 p.m. April 25 in the 600 block of Pine Street in Cambridge. The festival's planning committee announced Wednesday that it was in search of vendors for the event.
The 2008 festival drew hundreds of people from throughout Dorchester and surrounding areas, including scores of children who enjoyed a variety of activities geared for them. The 2009 event will again offer youngsters the opportunity to participate in things like arts and crafts and a scavenger hunt.
The event will include the Color Guard from the Cambridge police Department, opening remarks by Brother Garrett Cook of the Cambridge Church of Christ, the Pleasant Day Funsters, Vernetter Pinder portraying Harriet Tubman, Bishop J. J. Green and The Anointed Five, and Everett Young with the Gospel Deliverers. A silent auction is also planned.
The festival is designed to bridge the various ethnic cultures of Dorchester County. "One of the reasons we continue to hold this on the Main Street block of Pine Street is because we feel this is an area that we can continue to build cultural bridges that will upgrade our community, to link all of the Main Street areas to some of the progress that is going on," said planning committee member Octavene Saunders.
The event is spearheaded by Dorchester - Cambridge Multi-cultural Festival Committee in partnership with the Pine Street Committee, Dorchester Elks Lodge 223, Dorchester County Department of Tourism, MTS Broadcasting, and American Legion Post 87.
Vendors and additional partners for the festival are being sought, along with contributions for the silent auction and various prizes. Those interested, or who would like more information, should call (410) 228-7990.
