Basic Elements of Christianity

Before You Begin
Rev. 18.10.12

Welcome!

Thank you for taking this course. It shows your interest in God and your desire to grow in knowledge of Him.

In developing software for Christian instruction I prefer to make the material easy to use by all people regardless of age and other facts. This is why you will find the size of the text a little larger than what you might find on most other software programs. If you prefer a different size font you might have to adjust your browser settings. However, if you do, the text might not fit properly.

Here is what you will need to know for these lessons.

1. Use Your Holy Bible With These Studies

Numerous Scripture references will be given throughout this course, so you will need to use your Holy Bible with these studies. It would be best if you use the King James Version (KJV) or the New King James Version (NKJV).

Consulting your Holy Bible will help you to learn where to find the passages. Learning now where to find the various books of the Holy Bible will help you throughout your Christian walk.

If you do not have a Holy Bible, and if you are local to Macinta Ministries, we will provide you with one upon your request. You may also access the Holy Bible on the Internet at www.blueletterbible.org.

Also, commune (pray) with the Lord as you take these lessons.

2. Record and Keep Your Own Personal Thoughts and Notes

Whether you prefer to jot them down on paper or store them somewhere on your computer, or both, record your thoughts and observations. Let the Holy Spirit truly guide you to conduct your own study on topics that interest you.

3. Computer Settings

At times, clicking on a link (like one that might lead to a glossary entry) might send a command to open a new window. This might not happen if your browser is set to stop pop ups. However, most likely you will not be affected, so do not make changes until you do have trouble.

This is also true regarding Javascripts. If certain features seem not to work, see if Java needs to be enabled for your browser. Please enable it if need be, at least for these studies.

For best viewing, command your browser not to ignore the font settings, and other settings, of these pages.

4. Navigation Tips

Lessons are color coded. Next to the number of the lesson on the Main Menu will appear a space of color. When you arrive at that lesson, it will be highlighted in that color.

Glossary entries will be highlighted in purple and underline. Clicking on the word or phrase will open another window with the glossary entry. You may close that window when finished or let it remain open. However, if you click on another entry in the lesson it will open in another new window.

5. Differences Of Spelling Of The King James And Other Versions

Unless otherwise noted, printed passages of Holy Scripture are from the 1769 Authorized Version (an edition of the KJV) for Lesson 1, Primary Loyalty. You, as a disciple will see what might be "spelling errors," e.g., offence for offense, worshipping for worshiping, in the KJV. These are not errors but are the way the words were spelled centuries ago. It is good for you to know the differences in spelling. The American King James Version (AKJV), unless otherwise noted, will be used beginning Lesson 2, Who God Is. After a certain point, "YHVH", the sacred name of God, will be used whenever the text indicates it. Many translations have LORD (not Lord or lord) when it is present in the text, but I think it would be best to use YHVH (some people use YHWH). This applies to all translations used.
