God Wants Everyone to Flourish in Christ

By Pete Macinta

There are many times when Christians tell others about the salvation available to all in Jesus Christ that they notice their hearers express some type of fear. For some, they might think that they will miss out on a lot of things if they become a true Christian.

True, they will miss out on some things, but they do not understand that when one does become a true Christian they become a new creation, a new person who will realize that there is many things far better than what they now crave.

An outstanding doctrine of the true Christian faith is that Christ came, lived, died and rose from the dead the for us. Those who personally know Christ, who have been born-again, are to walk in newness of life. Another way to look at this is that Christ walks for us -- if we let Him.

Those who have truly come to Christ have Him dwelling within, and are themselves rooted in Him.

By the Holy Spirit, the Apostle Paul in Colossians 2:6-7 writes, "As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in Him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving."

God wants those that personally know Him to spiritually flourish in Him. Note that in the passage just cited we are told to be rooted in Christ. We must firmly, without reservations, be planted in Christ. Our spiritual roots should strive to seek deepness within Him. The deeper we God, the more of His vibrant Holy Spirit will flow through our lives.

As you see, we are also to be built up in Him, growing spiritually all the time.

While we might be missing some things of this sinful world, by faith we are to look at what we can be in Christ, and press on to that glorious goal. As we do so, our desire for the things of the world will be lessened, and our appetite for the things of God will increase.

After Christ rose from the dead, He did not expect His disciples to stay at the same spiritual level that they had been. Instead, He told them to tarry in Jerusalem until the promise of the Father was poured out upon them. Even after that, many of the disciples gave themselves to prayer, fasting, and ministry.

The spiritual walk that Christ offers to us in His resurrected life is far better than anything the world can give to us. If you have not crossed the line and have come into the Kingdom of God, I encourage you to do so today.

"O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colors and lay thy foundations with sapphires. And I will make thy windows of agates and thy gates of rubies, and all thy borders of pleasant stones. And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD, and great shall be the peace of thy children." --- Isaiah 54:11-13
