Where Is The King?

By Pete Macinta

It was a long, arduous journey. No one really knows exactly where these men came from. All we know for sure is that they were Magi from the East. Most likely they had traveled hundreds of miles over a variety of terrain and through all types of weather conditions. It also very probable, based upon the text, their journey was a long one, perhaps close to two years long.

Despite these inconveniences, according to Matthew 2:2 they had one supreme goal, which was to answer the question, "Where is He that is born King of the Jews?" This was the question that impelled them, ever since they noted the star indicating His birth. The question needed an answer to satisfy a spiritual hunger these men shared.

Human logic directed them to Jerusalem, the place where certainly such a king would be. But there, the religious leaders, being interrogated by Herod the Great, indicated the Holy Scriptures revealed that the birthplace of this king would be in Bethlehem.

The Magi then left Jerusalem and soon achieved their heart's desire, finding the Child. No doubt any thought of how long and rigorous their journey vanished as they beheld the Child and rightfully worshiped the Messiah.

We, too, might have a rigorous, tiring journey through life. However, if we ask, "where is the King," and diligently seek Him with all our heart, we shall find Him. Upon finding Him, if we commit to Him as our King, submitting ourselves to Him, we will become His subjects.

I can think of no better king than He of Whom Isaiah prophesied would come as the Prince of Peace. Committing to the kingship of Christ settles many things, for He overrules all men and all laws of men. He overrules our enemies. He overrules us.

Making Christ our King means, in part, that we will fully trust Him in every facet of our life. It also means we will obey His commands, whether we find those commands pleasant or unpleasant. It means the loving surrender of our will, our desires, to His plans and purposes.

Placing Christ in complete charge of our lives brings a multitude of blessing in this life, and great reward in Life Eternal. Any inconvenience we face here while doing His will shall vanish when we see Him in glory.

Where is the King? May we let Him rule supremely in our hearts every moment of our lives. May He be found upon the throne of our hearts.

"O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colors and lay thy foundations with sapphires. And I will make thy windows of agates and thy gates of rubies, and all thy borders of pleasant stones. And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD, and great shall be the peace of thy children." --- Isaiah 54:11-13
