Cloud Nine

By Pete Macinta

There are many in today's world that are searching for peace but are having trouble finding it. Too often most people seek peace in something material. While they might find satisfaction for a time, eventually it wears off, and once again the individual has craving for peace

In the previous Bible GemLight I noted that January 25, 2009 marked the 39th year of my commitment to Christ and the fact that the first year in the Lord was somewhat an exciting one.

Also quite memorable to me was the awesome peace of God that filled me for many weeks during that year.

I had heard a number of sermons from Rev. Billy Graham, enough to realize that if one does become a true Christian, they must walk by faith and not by sight. If one becomes born-again, they accept the fact of their salvation by faith regardless of any lack of emotion they might feel.

I thought about committing to Christ for almost a whole hour after listening to Rev. Graham on that Sunday night in 1970. Finally, at around 11:25 p.m., I knelt beside my bed and invited Jesus Christ into my life to be my King.

After praying that prayer, I felt nothing at first. However, because of my turbulent years before that point of time, full of despair, sin, and self-hatred, I asked one more thing of God. Essentially I said to Him that I knew that I did not need to feel anything to know that I was saved, but I sure would not mind feeling something.

An overwhelming sense of peace then hit me. It was very heavy and pleasant. In the day that followed I privately worshiped with great emotion the One Whom I once had mocked. The awesome presence of peace was something I needed.

It might be something you need too. If so, earnestly invite the King of Peace into your life now. The Word of God indicates in Psalm 119:165a, "Great peace have they which love thy law." When someone commits their life to Jesus Christ they are yielding to the law of God that states sin must be punished. Jesus Christ took the punishment for our sins while He suffered and died upon the cross.

After awhile the "cloud nine" sort of dissipated somewhat. There were valleys and spiritual battles to be fought in those valleys. However, one learns to let the glory of His peace glow within themselves no matter what state they are in. One also learns that one can ascend to "cloud nine" as he lifts up praises to God.

"O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colors and lay thy foundations with sapphires. And I will make thy windows of agates and thy gates of rubies, and all thy borders of pleasant stones. And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD, and great shall be the peace of thy children." --- Isaiah 54:11-13
