I have been really enjoying the peace and quiet this past week. I have received less phone calls, junk mail, junk e-mail and less Internet debate. Much of the communication contained little of substance, and ranged from the idiotic to the pornographic.
What happened was, elections in the United States were held, after which there was an immense peace. While I relish the thought we can express our voice by ballot and not by bullet, I do not enjoy the clamoring and trash prior to our elections.
Scripturally it is no surprise. A few times in Scripture the nations and ungodly are likened to the restless waves of the sea.
While the sea is not mention in Psalm 2, we do read in verse 1 (Young’s Literal Translation), “Why have nations tumultuously assembled? And do peoples meditate vanity?” It reads this way in the King James: “Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?”
Essentially, those that do not have Christ as their Savior do not have real lasting peace. Some are more restless than others and it often shows up in politics or religion.
One of these days, all of the religious and political clamor, along with the foolish and ungodly ways of the world will cease. It will be when Christ returns, and from Isaiah 11:6-9 we get a beautiful picture of the peace that there will be when He rules on earth: “The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.”
For sure this will happen, and though that is predestined, we have a choice of which side we want to be upon. By surrendering to Christ now, we have that hope of having eternal peace, a peace that no one will ever take away, and a peace that’s a million times better than days after an election.

"O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colors and lay thy foundations with sapphires. And I will make thy windows of agates and thy gates of rubies, and all thy borders of pleasant stones. And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD, and great shall be the peace of thy children." --- Isaiah 54:11-13
