As I write this GemLight, we have been without our car for 24 days. Over three weeks ago I had dropped off Dorcas at work and headed into town to do an errand. Heading west on US 50 the car started to lose power, and finally quit as I was in the extreme left hand lane to turn off on to Cedar Street.

Certain symptoms indicated to me that the timing belt was involved someway. It was late Friday when I brought it to a local mechanic. After the weekend, the mechanic confirmed on Monday that a timing belt pulley had broken. Later in the week, we learned that the engine valves had been damaged as a result. The cost of repair now loomed over $2,000.

What has bothered us about this is that this occurred at around 54,000 miles on the car. The handbook that came with our General Motors Chevrolet 2004 Aveo stated to have the timing belt inspected after 60,000 miles.

The car would not have hit 60,000 until early 2011. I fully intended to research which mechanic would have the best price for replacement and then get the car to him. However, the mechanism failed, contrary to the recommendations of the handbook. Now, the cost of replacement and repair is about five times as much. Some handbook!

That is very unlike the Holy Bible. In my over forty years in Christ I have never seen the Holy Bible fail on any point. It is the most reliable thing I have ever come across. What it says, happens. Follow what it says, and you will eventually get the blessings promised. Disobey, and trouble is at your door.

By contrast, people say various things, presenting different standards and often unable to live up to their promises and commitments. So, as it is written in Isaiah 40:6-8, "The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field: The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass. The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever."

What God has said does not change. The Holy Bible is relevant for today and applicable for every person's life. Best of all, our salvation from sin and hell is clearly presented. I strongly encourage you to fully commit to Christ and fully rely on His Word.
