In the previous Bible GemLight, "God said Lay Down!," I told you how God protected me during a car accident when I and a good friend, Bob Wittik were trying to tell another friend about Christ--but I forgot to tell you more about Wittik.

Upon impact, Bob went through the windshield then bounced back into his seat. As I crawled out from the back I took a good look at him--his face was a bloody mess.

"Bob! Are you OK?," I asked.

He weakly replied, "Yes Pete. Get an ambulance."

Looking around I saw a maintenance building within the cemetery and ran to it. Thank God there was a man inside and telephone.

Police and ambulances soon arrived. Wittik and the others were sent to the hospital.

A few days later while chatting with friends it was said how blessed Bob was. He could have easily been killed. He was indeed spared from physical death.

However, I would like to remind you that the main reason Wittik got into that car was to witness, somehow and in someway, the saving power of Christ to our friend who was driving. The driver eventually did commit his life to Christ, and Bob continued his committed life, one which has been focused upon saving people from eternal spiritual death.

Indeed, ever since I knew him, Bob was very active in telling people about the saving power of Jesus Christ. God has used him to spare many from eternal death.

Another term for that in the Word of God is "second death." The first death, physical death, can be described as the spirit of a person being separated from their body. The second death can be described as one's spirit being separated from any reconciliation with God forever.

"And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death," Revelation 20:14.

Is there a way out of this? The next verse reads, "And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire."

It is very clear that the way out is to have your name written in the Book of Life. Philippians 4:3 indicates to do so, you must be a true follower of Christ. Additional Scriptures show this means to forsake our sin and fully commit our life to Him.

If you have not done so, I encourage you to do just that. Bob, myself, and numerous others would like to see as many, that will, to be spared the second death by embracing the life of Christ.
